5 Easy Health Tips for Autumn

Autumn is a time of releasing and going inward. Below are 5 easy tips to prepare for the season.

1. Wear a scarf or jacket with a hood. As the fall winds start blowing it helps to keep the neck and shoulders warm and protected to prevent muscle tension and pain in this area.

2. Leave behind the cooling and raw foods of summer. It is time to shift to moistening, warming and cooked foods. Add in warming spices such as cinnamon, chili, ginger and onions to help the body fight when you feel a cold coming on. Autumn is ruled by the metal element and is related to the lungs and large intestines. Foods that generate fluids and moisten the lungs and large intestine such as steamed pears, apples, persimmons, nuts, seeds, and pumpkin are great additions. Add in a few astringent foods to preserve fluids and yin like lemons, pickles and apples. Support your digestion warm beverages and skip the iced coffee and drinks

3. The metal element is related to repressed grief, sadness and sorrow. When we don't give ourselves time to grieve it affects our lung health. As the days get shorter and we start to slow down, take time to honor those that have transitioned,  things we need to let go of that are no longer serving us and past versions of ourselves. Take time to journal, paint, draw, play music or create a memorial to honor the things we are releasing.

4. Slow your daily rhythm. As we move away from the action packed fire time of summer and the days begin to shorten it is time to start slowing down and rest. Pause and take time to meditate, take a slow walk in nature, nap and enjoy a slow cup of tea.

5. Get acupuncture and take herbs to boost your immune system, protect your digestive health, boost your lung qi and manage constipation. Herbal consults are included in all Cosmic Wave Acupuncture appointments.  Lung health and digestive health also affects skin health this makes it a great time to book a Cosmic Wave Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture session.
